Track my progress on Aug 6 & 7 2011
I will be using a training tool called sports track live which should allow you to follow my progress in more or less real time on the days of the event. The software provides a link to a map that should be auto-updated by my smart phone. You can get this link by the following methods:
- If you are a friend of mine on facebook, you will get notices as I start and stop each leg with the link included.
- If you are on twitter, just follow me at "itsanotherbob" to get the same notifications and links.
- Just go to sportstracklive.com look for the most recent data although in this case you won't get notices when I start and end a leg.
FAQ / General Info
The PMC is in August, why are you bugging me now?
Short answer? Because $4300 is a lot of money to raise!
What are these folks going to do with my personal information?
Nothing whatsoever except let me know who donated so I can thank you. See their privacy statement here.
So what is the Pan Mass Challenge, and why are you doing this?
The Pan-Mass Challenge is a fundraising event benefiting the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. "The PMC, is the nation's first fundraising bike-a-thon and today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country.
Last year the PMC raised around $30 million and more than 99 cents of every dollar raised went directly to The Jimmy Fund / Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
I am personally taking the Wellesley to Provincetown 2-day, 163 mile route shown on this map and ends in the red at the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown. The minimum fund-raising target for this route is $4300.
I was inspired to do this in 2006 by the passing of my uncle Wesley Isenberg who died from leukemia. My grandfather passed away from cancer when I was young, and my father is a cancer survivor as are a number of my friends. So now you know my motivation.
Special Acknowledgements 2011
I would like to thank everyone who donated to this cause in 2011. I appear to be on target due to your generosity. Also, my family provided a lot of logistical support.
In particular:
- Dad, thanks for driving my car to Cape Cod so I had a way to get my bike home.
- Terri, thanks for being the bestest sister ever and getting up a 4:30 a.m. to drive me to the start line.
- Joan, thanks for letting me crash somewhere nice, providing a great dinner, and getting up to drive me to Bourne for Day II.
